In recent years, the rapid expansion of the mobile communication network has led to a substantial increase in the energy consumption and pollution. The relevant departments and operators have begun to do a variety of new energy research and construction work for base stations, in which the hydrogen energy programs has got much attention. In this paper, considering that using Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Supply System (HFCPSS) to replace existing backup power system for base station has some security and economy aspect problem, we study and analyze the key technologies for HFCPSS. We use mathematical methods and establish analytical model to study the factors that impact system’s security and economy. Using MATLAB to process data, some conclusion is got to help to provide some theoretical support for the actual system replacement work.First, the two key technologies, hydrogen fuel cell power generation technology and hydrogen storage technology, are respectively analyzed. Combined with the characteristics of base station working environment, some mainstream hydrogen fuel cells’ advantages and disadvantages are analyzed and compared. And the conclusion is drawn:PEMFC is more applicable to the base station environment. Then we analyze the impact of using different hydrogen storage technology on system’s overall performance, by quantifying security, cost and hydrogen storage properties. We use fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and Analytic Hierarchy Process to get quantitative evaluation on system’s overall performance. System with solid-state hydrogen storage has a critical acclaim with proportion of78%, while system with gaseous hydrogen storage has a critical acclaim with proportion of18%.Then this paper analyzes economy effects of HFCPSS with solid-state hydrogen storage and existing backup power system for base station. On the basis of two power system structure, we build up system economic model, and use the average annual cost to measure the system economy effects. And we design several groups of base station program with different power and backup time, and use economy model to compare the two systems’cost in different electricity demand. With help of simulation, we draw two conclusions. First, the new system’s short-term annual average cost is higher than the existing system. But as using time increasing, the gap between two systems’annual average are reduced. The new system’s long-term average annual cost has certain advantages. Second, in the condition of less power and shorter standby time, the gap between the two systems’cost are smaller. In addition, we use experience curve to predict the approximate time when the two systems have a rough equal equipment price. Finally, based on those conclusions, we propose a feasible strategy to replace the old system from concept aspect. Finally, on the basis of previous research, a HFCPSS applied to the actual base station is tested, and performance verification results are got.
