Stereoscopic video technology has been an advanced technology and fast developing field in21century. It has a widely application prospect. With the fast development of the stereoscopic video technology, stereoscopic video quality assessment method has been a very important research direction. These video quality assessment methods can not only be used to measure the stereo video display effect, but also can measure the video distortion degree made by different coding methods. This paper first introduces the principle of the human visual system and the causes of the stereoscopic vision. Then there is the introduction on the acquiring, processing, coding, transmission and display technology of the stereo video system. The author also researched the different distortion type and deeply researched the classification and the evaluation index of video quality assessment methods. On the basis of the theoretical researches mentioned above, the author designs and implements a system to evaluate the stereoscopic video quality based on VLC player. The system is made by the subjective and objective quality assessment. To display the stereoscopic video, the author analyses the system architecture and the display module of the open source VLC player. Then designed and accomplished two stereoscopic display methods. The subjective evaluation system includes the information input, scoring and displaying. Based on VLC messages output mechanism, the author proposed the3D-structrual similarity measures index. In addition, the three-dimensional test sequences were processed distorted by four different methods like image blurring and so on. After data processing and comparative analysis, the result verified the accuracy of subjective and objective quality assessment system.
