Stereoscopic video quality declines in capture, compression, transmission and display. Thus, an accurate, efficient and perfect stereoscopic video quality assessment system plays a very important role in promoting the further development and improvement of stereoscopic video compression and transmission technology. The study of stereoscopic video quality assessment method falls in the subjective evaluation and objective evaluation. In the subjective evaluation, a relatively complete method on subjective quality assessment of stereo video is proposed, including stereo video library, experimental condition, the standard of choosing observers, the determination of the number of observers, training and testing observers, selecting and processing experimental data. The method of determining the number of observers ensures the accuracy of experimental data and saves the experimental resources. Meanwhile, the method of selecting and processing experimental data avoids the effect of observers’difference and experimental environment on experimental results. In the objective evaluation, a new full-reference stereo video quality objective assessment method is also proposed. The method extracts several stereoscopic video quality indicators, including luminance-contrast distortion, structure similarity, clarity distortion and depth distortion. Then based on a large number of subjective assessment data, the multivariate nonlinear regression analysis determines the mathematical expression and weight of each indicator. Experiment results demonstrate that the method presented in this paper is related to the human visual system.
