With the gradual integration of radar technology and computer technology, the performance of radar is perfect and the application is even more widespread. At the present, radar has been widely applied to military and civil field, especially in the vessel traffic management system, it has become the essential equipment for ship-navigation and collision avoidance. Because of the importance of ship-navigation radar, researchers began to study the radar echo signal. Radar echo signal refers to the electromagnetic waves that emitted by objects in the dissemination process and then received by the radar receiver. This thesis is mainly to analyze the characteristics of radar echo signal according to the recorded radar video signal.In the Visual C++environment, all radar targets are detected from video image sequence, and then their characteristic parameters are admitted, including area of the target, average amplitude, perimeter, stationary direction and shape complexity. And the statistical regularity of the parameters and the distribution they obey are studied by MATLAB. Another part of the thesis is to study land clutter signal, some specific regions are chosen for statistical research. In the process of the admission for target parameters, it requires all the parameters are correct, but in practice, there will be aberrant points due to noise and other external disturb factors, which affect the statistical regularity, thus it would be best to revise these points first. In addition, different background context and radar parameters will result in different characteristics of the echo signal. Therefore, the video signal studied in the thesis is collected by current radar under the certain conditions.The detailed analysis of radar video signal contribute to accurately grasp the actual working environment for the ship-navigation radar, and it will provide teaching experiment basis for the research of Automatic Radar Plotting Aid and the Vessel Traffic Service systems; Meanwhile, it makes generate radar targets artificially more easily and accurately. The simulated targets are closer to the actual situation and they can be as the source of experiments for researching radar signal processing algorithms, which facilitates the research of this field and other related fields. Most important of all, according to the statistical characteristics of target and clutter, we can have a clear understanding on radar signal, which gets radar signal processing, such as target detection recognition target tracking and so on more rapidly and accurately, so it ensure the safety of navigation.
