With the rapid development of informatization, sensor technology come into being. It’s more efficient and convenient to help people understand and explore the world. At the same time, with the development of optical fiber technology in recent years, more and more people realize that various properties of optical fiber can be used to detect a variety of physical quantities. Optical fiber sensing technology has attracted more and more attention and it has been a promising research topic.We study the intensity modulation fiber sensor from the refractive index modulation and micro-bending modulation. The characteristic of optical fiber sensor including refractive index modulation and micro-bending modulation is studied, so are the factors that affect the operating characteristics. Especially the working principle of sensor probe is detailed studied with the method of fiber’s light theory and wave theory. Photonic crystal fiber sensor is designed according to the computer simulation, and the operating characteristics of this sensor is also analyzed. The integrated system of micro-bending fiber sensor is designed, the fiber sensor is repeated tested in order to ensure the accuracy of the theoretical system. The main research includes the follo wings:1In order to design the intensity modulation fiber sensor with accuracy and reliability, the basic theory of the optical fiber transmission and principle of different kinds of intensity modulation fiber sensor are studied.2The propagation performance of a square photonic fiber is studied, so are the fiber-optic of different materials. We also analyze the characteristic of this fiber-optic sensor, and compared it with the same structure of the traditional optical fiber probe.3Fiber losses that is caused by the fiber deformation is studied. Radius of curvation and fiber materials which can affect the performance of fiber sensor are studied. We use the software of MATALAB to analyze it.4The system of micro-bending fiber sensor is designed and experimented.
