With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have gained a lot of attention and have been studied and applied in many different fields, especially in Healthcare. The nodes of the WSN, which are mostly limited in size and energy, have high ditribution density and could self-organize into a network. The energy-efficiency is one of the most important issues in WSN researches. By adopting and modifying the MIMO technique of wireless mobile communication, the Cooperative MIMO technology is widely studied to improve the energy-efficiency of WSN.Firstly, the article described the development of IoT and the application in medical wireless e-health (WeHealth). By studying the key technologies, especially the cooperative MIMO technology, analyze the defects of cooperative MIMO in improving the energy-efficiency of WSN. Secondly, a cooperative MIMO strategy in the advanced healthcare applications with the Body Area Network (BAN) channel is proposed, including the selection method of cooperative nodes, the number of cooperative nodes and the selection of modulation scheme. Thirdly, by analyzing the environment with high desity of patients, a multi-patient cooperative MIMO strategy was proposed. With the comparison of energy consumption in different strategies, an automatic selection method of the two strategies based on different patient densities are discussed. Finally, focused on the high energy consumption issue in a long trasmission distance, a relay node was added into the cooperative strategies, which decreased more energy consumption of WSN. A further research orientation was discussed at last.The article mainly studied the cooperative MIMO transmission technology in WSN with BAN channel and proposed three cooperative MIMO strategies in different medical applications, all of which effectively improved the energy-efficiency of WSN.
