With the development of technology and popularization of wireless technology, wireless network is going through a growth spurt around the world. Big data has brought great pressure to3G networks in China, which makes ISPs decide to invest on building WLAN networks. On the one hand, ISPs are investing hugely on WLAN networks. On the other hand, they should monitor QoS of existing networks and solve problems in time. It is a difficult task to monitor the huge number of Aps spreading all over cities. To solve the problems existing in the network optimization coverage for WLAN network and detection of network failures, it is necessary to find a way to monitor the quality of the WLAN networks in real-time.By analyzing mechanism of WLAN network, WEB. DHCP、 Portal authentication services which are widely used in WLAN network are chosen as the research targets. A set of QoS parameters and ways to measure them are proposed. As the differences between WLAN network and Ethernet are physical layer and data link layer, this paper analyse not only delays and success rate under data link layer, but also response time, package loss rate and network availability under network layer. To monitor WLAN network efficiently in real time, a distributed system is designed and implemented. Clients in the system use both positive monitoring and passive monitoring to accomplish the mission. Positive monitoring is used in basic measurement with little flow, while passive monitoring is used in application layer measurement with great flow. Passive monitoring will bring no side effect to services in the network. In this paper, design and implementation of each passive monitoring modules used in the system are illustrated. In the end, a test using this system was made in a real WLAN network, which did a good job.
