CoMP (Coordinated Multiple Point transmission/reception) is recognized as a promising technology to increase the cell edge user throughput in the next-generation mobile communication system of LTE-Advanced. For CoMP, inter-cell coordinated scheduling algortithm is crucial to improve the spectrum efficiency of CoMP systems. At the same time, it is also important to decide coordinated cells serving a specific user in order to have, e.g., the largest cell throughput for an accepted level of scheduling complexity and backhaul capacity. An inter-cell coordinated scheduling algortithm is developed to cancel interference between users which are served on the same resource block. In order to improve the throughput of cell-edge users, a cell clustering sheme is also proposed to cancel inter-cluster interference. This paper introduces the concept and research status of CoMP technology, and summarizes the research details of CoMP in LTE-A. Considering both proportional fair factor of users and interference to others, an inter-cell coordinated scheduling algortithm based on channel correlation is proposed which includes a scheduling weight factor. As a result, the system throughput is improved. Besides, an overlapped clustering scheme to decide the cooperation cells for coordinated multi-point (CoMP) systems is proposed. The overlapping patterns are defined for the cluster-edge users to make sure that these users become the overlapping cluster-center users. Then the overlapping patterns and clusters are allocated orthogonal frequency resource, which can cancel inter-cluster interference and improve the performance of cluster-edge users. Finally, the CoMP system level simulation platform is built and the simulation of the proposed schemes is conducted. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes yields significant improvement to cell-edge users’spectrum efficiency as well as increasing average cell throughput.
