With the wide applications of wireless communication networks and various radiotechnologies, the spectrum resource is getting scarcer. Cognitive radio (CR) technology isan important means to solve the growing shortage of spectrum resource. At the presenttime, researches in the underlying technologies of CR are becoming mature, but researchesin the network layer or above the network layer are just getting started. Thereinto, thedesign of routing protocols is one of the core technologies of cognitive radio networks.This thesis mainly studies routing technology of the cognitive radio ad hoc networks(CRAHN). The work contents and innovation points are as follows:1. The present development status of cognitive radio were elaborated, and the researchstatus of CRAHN routing protocols were analyzed in detail. The thesis summarized theresearch achievements and inadequacies in that field of study.2. After studying the characteristics of CRAHN and original ad hoc networksthoroughly, the decision to achieve a new routing protocol based on AODV protocol wasmade. So the thesis analyzed the control packet format and routing establishment andmaintenance processes in AODV protocol, then trying to make preparation for designing anew routing protocol.3. By modifying and supplementing AODV protocol in routing table, control packetformat, and introducing virtual layer, a new routing protocol named Cognitive Ad Hoc OnDemand Vector (C_AODV) protocol for CRAHN was proposed. This new protocol usedthe idea of cross-layer design, did not need common control channel, and combinedspectrum management with path selection.4. Hardware experiment platform was designed and built to simulate actual scene of CRAHN. The routing algorithm programming was developed and implemented properlyon the running platform.5. Routing metric strategy was studied and the performance of C_AODV was testedand analyzed by taking end-to-end delay as an indicator. In the end, the summary of thethesis and some recommendations for future researches were given.In general, this thesis firstly studied the routing protocol of CRAHN in theory; Then,proposed a new routing scheme; Finally, realized the routing algorithm on the hardwareexperiment platform. From theory to practice, it implemented a comprehensive research onthe routing algorithm of CRAHN. The results showed that, the routing algorithm C_AODVdesigned in this thesis was feasible and with a good performance. It could provide someideas for future research to refer to in this area.
