Cognitive radio technology is a critical technology to solve the problem of spectrumresource constraint, and currently it has become one of the focuses in the field of wirelesscommunication. The research of cognitive radio is mainly focused on physical level andMAC (Media Access Control) level. Corresponding technologies include spectrum sensing, spectral analysis, spectrum decision and spectrum sharing. However, the research ofrouting protocols in cognitive radio networks is relatively less. Dynamic spectrumresources in cognitive radio networks have brought many new problems to design routingprotocols in cognitive radio networks. So it is very necessary to design routing protocolswhich apply to cognitive radio networks. This thesis focuses mainly on the routingprotocols in cognitive Ad Hoc network. In this thesis, we introduce the research background, current research and the prospectof cognitive radio technology, and give the main purposes and significances of the researchto be introduced. Then, we introduce the routing protocols in traditional Ad Hoc networks, point out the challenges of routing research in cognitive radio network, and give an outlineof the current research in cognitive radio network. Our research is mainly based on primaryusers’ authorized channels. We use the ON-OFF model to simulate the primary user’sbehavior. With considering the cognitive user’s requirements for routing survival time androuting throughput, we design a routing protocol which can be applied to cognitivewireless networks. At last, we simulated the routing protocols using MATLAB. From thesimulation results, we can see the advantage of our design in optimizing the paths withconsidering the path throughput and survival time that influenced by behavior of theprimary users.
