With the continuous growth of China’s national economy, power systems welcome the new times of high-speed development. With the high-speed development of power system, the substation monitoring system plays an increasingly important role in the substation monitoring and control process. Thus presents higher requirements on device driver development kit, which plays an important part in substation monitoring system. Therefore, it is very meaningful to develop the device driver development kit in substation.monitoring system.Firstly, research background and significance of this project are introduced in this paper. Based on the analysis of functional requirements, the research status and problems of current substation monitoring system are pointed out in this paper. Then, the functional requirements of device driver development kit are briefly analyzed.Integral structure and three communication network structures of the substation monitoring system are discussed in this paper, and according to different valtage level, the arrangement of secondary equipment are given. Also, the thesis describes the content of the substation communication between each layer and the requirements of communication speed and network performance. Based on the research of main communication protocol, this thesis describes the Polling protocol in detail with Modbus protocol for example. According to the modul division of substaion monitoring software, the functions of each module are given in this paper, and the importance and functionality of the device driver module are made clear.The key technologies to the development of the device driver development kit are introduced in this paper. Based on the modular design method, the device driver software is divided into four modules:device description module, data link module, data processing module, communication module, and the dynamic link library technology is used in two of the four modules to realize the secondary development of device driver. The commuication module uses three technologies to develop, and every technology meets the requirement of communication for each communication network.. Firstly, the thesis uses Win32API functions to program serial software, uses asynchronoue I/O technology to improve program executive efficiency, uses multiple threads mechanism to sumchronize the information transmission. Secondly, the thesis uses windows Sockets ro program TCP/IP network communication, uses non-block communication to improve program executive efficiency. Thirdly, this thesis describes the technical standard of OPC Data Access Specification for the communication module based on OPC technique, uses subscription-based access and COM connection point mode through OPC interface to realize the communication between OPC client and OPC server. In addition, multi-threaded design mechanism is introduced inOPC client to realize the connection of one client to multiple servers. That ensure eht efficiency of data exchange and achieve the optimization of structure and perfomance.Lastly, an instance of using device driver development kit in substation monitoring system is given in this paper, and an overall application using device driver development kit in substation monitoring system is proposed. By mesns of testing and analyzing of data communication performance, the results show that the correctness and usability of this paper’s design implementation, which can achieve efficient data communication between a various subsystems of substation and have a good actual application value. Finally, on the basis of research summary, this paper gives the problems need to research and study in the future.
