Remote laser ranging plays a more significant role in military and survey application. With the limitation of single-pulsed laser ranging technology in the long distance laser ranging, a new ranging technology based on the cross-correlation between the transmitted pulse train and the received pulse train is proposed, aiming to improve the ability of weak pulses of remote laser ranging.A new laser ranging method based on the pulse train cross-correlation is proposed and a pulse-train laser ranging experimental system which includes a emitting system based on FPGA and semiconductor laser, a photoelectric receiving system based on PIN and a digital signal processing system based on high speed ADC and FPGA is designed, to explore the function of the pulse-train cross-correlation method in remote laser ranging.In the experiment, several pulses are bonded together as a signal to be emitted. The transmitted pulse train and the received pulse train are digitalized after the emitting pulse train is detected by PIN for the cross-correlation processing. The laser pulse train’s intensity is modulated to simulate echo pulses of different distance. A series of experiments are designed to explore the abilities of the technology in improving SNR, suppressing noise and measuring time, and good results are got. The signal to noise ratio has been improved from0.11to5.92.
