With the rapid development of computer technology, network technology and communication technology, researching on wireless local area network (WLAN)-based distributed measurement system becomes one of the hot problems in the field of test nowadays. The wireless, distributed and networked measurement system has remarkable superiority for completing complicated and remote tasks. It makes high-speed transmission and handle data efficiently possible as well in harsh environment. In order to obtain data in harsh environment, the design approach for distributed measurement system based on Wireless Network has been discussed. To realize acquisition and processing for test signal, software platforms of distributed measurement system based on LABVIEW has been researched.After researching basic concepts and structure of distributed measurement system, wiring limitations caused by its communication medium has been introduced. In order to settle these problems, the design approach for distributed measurement system based on WLAN has been discussed and. According to the system model, a WLAN-based distributed measurement system using a star network topologic structure which consists of the data management center, field test nodes and communication network is established. By studying the networking technology of WIFI, the overall structure of wireless networked measurement system is designed.The functions of management, analyzing and processing data is indispensable in the test system, so, it is necessary to study a software system based on virtual instrument which also reduce cost. In order to develop a man-machine interface of the data acquisition system, overall structure of the software platforms of distributed measurement system based on LabVIEW has been studied. In this design, the socket communication technology and dynamic link libraries (DLL) technology are adopted for realizing communications with USB and WIFI. Aiming at realizing correction for sensor’s dynamic error, a COM component generated by MATLAB is called in LabVIEW. The results of experiment indicate that the system has good stability and reliability. The system is verified to be of most value in test in harsh environment.
