As the sensor node ’s own vulnerability, namely: easy to damage, the communication link is notstable, carrying energy limited, is susceptible to environmental impact, resulting in the sensor nodesin wireless sensor network vulnerable to failure. Therefore, in order to ensure the normal operationof the wireless sensor network, failure sensor nodes are needed to be detected in order to prevent thefault nodes having impact on the entire sensor network.Because there is a common node energy consumption problem in traditional fault dectectionalgorithm, this thesis proposed a low energy consumption distributed fault detection algorithm, which takes full advantage of the temporal correlated and spatial correlated characteristic of thesensor nodes. It utilizes the temporal correlated information to examine a part of faulty nodes, andthen utilizes the spatial correlated information to examine the nodes that not having been detectedfailed through exchanging information among neighbor nodes to determine nodes’ state. Becausethe algorithm takes the data produced by nodes themselves to detect certain types of fault, whichmeans nodes need not to exchange information with its neighbor nodes during the entire detectionprocess, the energy consumption of networks is efficiently reduced.Event and event boundary detection are important functions in wireless sensor networks, whichare carried out based on the fault detection. However, the traditional methods take fewer faults ofthe nodes into account, it is likely for them to mistake the event boundary nodes for fault nodes andthe traditional methods also need communication with other nodes frequently. Resulting from these, traditional methods will cause lower fault-tolerant ability of the whole networks, worse availabilityof the nodes and higher energy consumption. Therefore, in order to increase the accuracy ofdetection rate and efficiency of the energy, this thesis presents an efficient fault-tolerance event andevent boundary detection strategy for wireless sensor networks. Spatial correlated information isemployed in fault and event boundary detection, and temporal correlated information is used forevent detection.Simulation results show that the algorithm and strategy have good performance even in theexistence of large sensor fault probability.
