As a new asymmetric coding scheme for video compression, Distributed Video Codingpresents some characteristics such as low coding complexity, less energy consumption in the codingside, high compression efficiency, and good fault-tolerant performance by shifting the motionestimation and the motion compensation in the traditional video encoding scheme to the decodeend.This paper systematically discusses the theory foundation and basic framework of DVC andresearched the technology of the key frame processing in DVC, which uses inter-frame codingmode. Firstly the inter-frame coding scheme and the key techniques in the traditional video codingin DVC are studied. Then, in order to make full use of the inter-frame correlation in the videoimages and overcome the disadvantages of the fixed period selecting key frame processing method,some novel adaptive key frame selection algorithm are presented.The experiment results show us that the adaptive images group could significantly improve theedge information of the generation quality. The adaptive images group algorithm based on the pixeldomain could improve about2.1dB for the generation quality of the edge information, while thealgorithm based on DCT and DWT transformation could enhance about1.4dB and0.4dBrespectively for the generation quality of the edge information.
