Navigation system has been widely applied in automobile, navigation, aviation and so on. Magnetic compass is an important and indispensable part of it. With its small volume, light weight, high precision, reliability etc, the electronic compass of magnetic resistance has become the future development direction. The magnetic field can be easily interferenced by the outside magnetic field, so it’s very important to compensate the error to ensure the accuracy of test results.Based on the background, the paper designs a kind of electronic compass system with compensation function. First it uses the single compass to realize the function, based on which, achieves a double compass compensation method. With the fixed position and the magnetic field intensity, the magnetic field can be differ from the interference magnetic field. The method is more strong applicability and much better than the traditional electronic compass error compensation method.According to the topic background and significance of the research,the paper gives the overall design scheme by the analysis of electronic compass system technical indicators and principle. Then the design of hardware and software of electronic compass system is performed. The hardware design uses micro controller LPC2366in ARM7as the core, with acceleration sensor ADXL213, the magnetic field sensor IIMC1001&HMC1002, A/I) data conversion module and so on as peripheral hardware. Software implementation use structural design method on the basis of hardware. It includes the collection and conversion of magnetic field data, the measurement of posture Angle, the reading and writting of ferroelectric memory, the interface communication of RS232and RS485are also included.The scaling test of single compass system has been completed, the estimated heading angle can meet the design parameters. The compensation principle of the double coordinate system of the electronic compass has also been verified. This method can conduct follow-up functional realization. At the same time, the algorithm can be simplified and the stability of the system need to be further researched.
