With the constant expansion of the campus network, the number of network users growsrapidly, as well as a variety of new network applications. However the network bandwidth isnot unlimited, the most part of existing campus bandwidth is occupied by P2P, video andother applications in addition to the normal business applications, so that the networkbandwidth resources are not effectively utilized, therefore the network bandwidthmanagement is urgently necessary.How to effectively manage and make good use of the limited campus bandwidth is animportant issue for the construction and management of the campus network. This paper aimsto explore bandwidth management technology to deal with the difficulty of the campusnetwork management, in view of the specific case. Through the research and analysis, thispaper proposes the general bandwidth management strategy, and puts it into practice, in orderto solves the the problems of campus network bandwidth management, which has madesatisfied management effect.First of all, through the analysis of the demand of the campus bandwidth management,mainly on two kinds of main bandwidth management technologies including DPI and DFI,this paper carried on the detailed analysis of the comparison, through tests on five differentproduct of bandwidth management equipments in one year. Based on the real test data, thispaper discussed application effect of the different management technologies, and reached theconclusion of using DPI technology primarily in the bandwidth management, combined withartificial intelligence and other data flow identification management technologies.Secondly, this paper studied the bandwidth management strategy. Based on the analysisof various bandwidth management equipments and documents, this paper proposeed that thebandwidth management goal and the principle of bandwidth management strategy. Thebandwidth management principles are as followings:(1) guarantee the key networkapplication, and suppress the unimportant network applications;(2) distinguish the differencenetwork objects, and restrict the available bandwidth for individual users;(3) divide thedifferent user or application levels of network resources use;(4) limit the maximum numberof connections of single IP;(5) adjust management strategy according to actual circumstancetimely.Finally, this paper applied the above research results to solve Xinhua College’s campusnetwork bandwidth management problem. After the preliminary analysis, the bandwidthmanagement strategy is formulated and applied to campus network. Through collecting data in one month, and by using SPSS statistical software to analysis the collected data, this paperconcluded that some network applications’ characteristics and network user’s use bahavior.Based on these conclusions, the bandwidth management strategy is improved and re-applied.The comparison of effects with and without strategy demonstrated the feasibility ofbandwidth management strategy.In this paper, the strategy is formulated through the research and analysis on real data ofbandwidth management, and then applied to actual applications. Comprehensive use ofplugging strategy and dredge policy, not only ensure the key business service quality bylimiting the non-critical business of bandwidth, but also guarantee the general business toshare bandwidth fairly, so as to improve the network operation.
