Research On The Information Behavior By User Demand Oriented

As the social informatization comes comprehensively, the information activities arefacing big challenges due to some information users can neither propose their informationdemands explicitly and completely nor obtain and use the information successfully. However,the information activity is a kind of foundation activities for human beings, which will affectthe quality of their lives. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the disciplines and features ofinformation demands and activities of users and the relationships between them to proposethe strategy for information activities of users broadly and in depth.First of all, the literatures about information demand and information behavior werereviewed, the content and current situation about information demand and informationbehavior were expound, the process and hierarchy relationship between information need,information demand, information behavior and information activity were revealed, theconcept of information demand and information activity were defined again. Based on theconclusions in the literatures, the mutually guiding mechanism between the informationdemands and information behavior was revealed, the information demand of user has aguiding role for information behavior, the information behavior also has a guiding role forinformation demand. According to the guiding mechanism between the information demandand information behavior, the mutually guiding mechanism model was built which to briefrevealed the guiding mechanism and process.In addition, according to the information activities of information users, a questionnairesurvey was conducted of which the sample objects are the undergraduate students in medicalcolleges and the features and disciplines of the information demands and behaviors of thesample objects’ and the factors which affect the relationship between them were analyzed.According to the proofs obtained from theory research and practical experiences, thestrategies were summarized to regulate and improve the information demands and behaviorsof users. One method is to establish a good information environment, from the perfectinformation policy laws and regulations, strengthen the development of informationtechnology, perfect service system and improve the information the user’s informationrequirement of the system platform. Another method is to avoid the negative mutuallyguiding effects between information demand and behaviors, from elicitation informationdesire, training information interest, exercise information habit, enhance self-efficacy, andrelying on the government, media, information and education institutions focus on the user’sinformation literacy. This paper is not only able to rich the theory system of informationdemand and behavior, but also able to provide the references for the information services industry and relative institutions.
