With the rapid development of the society and economy in our country, congested and saturated urban traffic has been a serious problem and makes more and more affects on the living of human beings. Intelligent transportation system (ITS), which integrates several theories with technologies including artificial intelligence, traffic engineer, computer technology, information collection and intelligent control and etc., provides a good solution for this problem and draws world-wide attentions. Traffic information collection and traffic dynamic guiding based on FCD (Floating Car Data) technology, which acquires real-time traffic information and provides optimum travel route to drivers, is one of the key technologies and top research concerns in ITS field.The traffic information collection and traffic dynamic guiding system in Ningbo is the first system based on FCD technology in China. Under this background, the paper makes a deep research on the key technologies of FCD-based traffic information collection and dynamic navigation system. The main works in the paper are introduced as follows:(1) To summarize current related researches in traffic information collection, dynamic navigation and route guiding, and to study the basic theory in FCD-based traffic information collection, dynamic route searching, and etc.(2) To design a FCD traffic information collection and dynamic route guiding system based on GPS and GIS. In this system, a rapid map matching method is used for large-scale real-time map matching of probe vehicle, and a location-speed model is built.(3) To propose an Arc-Dijkstra based route searching algorithm for the route matching of probe vehicle. In this algorithm, urban traffic network is transformed into topology map, and several goal functions, such as minimum route, minimum time and minimum cost, are designed in different dynamic conditions.(4) To implement the above-mentioned algorithms and the FCD-based traffic information collection and dynamic traffic guiding system in GIS platform and Microsoft C#.net development environment. Currently, this system has been applied in Ningbo successfully, and has played an important role in alleviating urban traffic congestion in Ningbo.
