Design And Application Of An Uniform Identity Authentication System On Colleges Digital Library

With the development of information and digital technology, as the information center, libraries more and more assume responsibility as the central node of information networks. The application of various systems such as Information release site, networked library circulation management system and network platform of electronic resources has solved the limitation on time and space r to a great extent when libraries deliver traditional printed media, and promoted the development of traditional library to digital library.These information systems all adopted the model during use that the users must be identified before authentication to use. Because these systems were developed by different departments and corporations and there are not unified certification standards and formats, it causes each system store and manage individual certification scheme and data. The unavoidable independence causes that users and administrators must use different accounts and passwords with several systems and must frequently switch different authentication modes. It is a major disadvantage for the construction of digital college library that there are large numbers of duplicated and independent user information.Compared to normal libraries, college libraries have more variety of information systems platform, more fixed service objects and more complex user types. So the disadvantage of traditional authentication mode becomes more prominent in college libraries.Therefore, we designed the unified authentication platform for college libraries which can uniformly manage the identity information and user rights for individual sub-systems of libraries. It can integrate the interdependent systems by the platform and benefits the use and management of individual platform for users.In this thesis, we investigated and researched current various authentication mode at home and abroad and discussed the key techniques which unified authentication required. Meanwhile we analyzed in very great detail the college library digital resource and the identity authentication technology. Based on the nature of college libraries, we proposed the design plan of library unified authentication platform.With the help of China Academic Library&Information System(CALIS), we designed an authentication mechanism combined with single sign-on(SSO) in the unified authentication platform. The authentication mechanism exploits an identity authentication scheme based on user password and public key infrastructure(PKI), and can realize the unified authentication for various system users of the library. In the meantime, we elaborated on the design method and implementation detail of the platform in this thesis.Finally, to demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of our method, we gave the detail of this platform in test. The test results show that the platform designed and implemented in this thesis can meet the application requirements of university digital libraries and can successfully deal with concurrent access with a strong robustness.
