The Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO)technique can increase the channelcapacity of wireless communication networks greatly by a means of employing multipleantennas at both transmitter and receiver. However, it is not feasible to use in mobileterminals due to the limitations in power consumption, physical size and hardwarecomplexity. The cooperative diversity technique can reap the benefts of space diversityby creating a virtual MIMO system among the single-antenna terminals. These spatiallydistributed hand-held terminals cooperate with each other and share their antennas. Thecooperative diversity provides a new way to realize the practical applications of MIMOtechnique. This paper is aimed at cooperative relay selection and the application ofcooperative diversity technique. The main contribution can be summarized as follows:Firstly, the outage probability of three cooperative diversity models-AF, DF andCC was deduced and simulated in two-user cooperation communication networks.Secondly, the shortcomings of several traditional relay selection strategies wereanalyzed and a novel best-relay selection strategy called Optimum Model combinedwith Optimal Power Allocation Relay Selection Strategy(OPAOM-RSS)was proposed. The goal of OPAOM-RSS is to maximize the system channel capacity. By introducingthe extensive coefficient it can adjust the potential relay numbers and zoom relayselection time in accordance with the system requirements. Simulation results show thatthe proposed scheme has remarkable superiority compared with the conventional relayselection strategies. Lastly, the application of cooperative diversity technique in LTEuplink system was presented and the specific implementation combined withOPAOM-RSS was provided. Simulation results show the merits of the proposedapplication scheme in terms of system throughput.
