OFDM systems are much more sensitive to synchronization errors than singlecarrier systems because of the orthogonality between subcarriers. Synchronization ofthe carriers at the receiver must be performed very accurately, or there will be loss oforthogonality be tween the sub-symbo ls, and generate inter-carrier interference, which isa disaster to the quality of communication.This paper first introduces the current situation of OFDM in communicationtechnology and the application and features of OFDM are also presented. Meanwhile,the basic principles of OFDM are discussed; the ke y technology, the advantages ofOFDM technology and the problems in OFDM system are introduced as well. Secondly,the effect of carrier frequency offset is analyzed, and performances of three differentcarrier frequencies offset estimation algorithms (CAFE),, Schimdl’s method,Huh’smethod, and Fang-Moose’s method, are discussed after simulation in Matlab. At last,the old system scheme is mentioned, some modifications and improvements, includingthe structure of the frames, the synchronization algorithm and the CAFE algorithm andso on, are also made to improve the performance according to the simulation result. Thenew scheme is also implemented on hardware board, and it works fine.
