A CV (Constant Voltage)/CC (Constant Current) controller XD1052which can beused on secondary-side of switching mode power supplies is designed on the basis ofthe project “Research on the Series of Power Management ICs”.Firstly, the basic structure and operational principle of Flyback Converter arediscussed. Then, the operational principle of constant voltage and constant currentswitching mode power supply are introduced. Meanwhile, the system of XD1052isdesigned and the electrical characteristics are also introduced. Afterward, the designand simulation of key sub-circuits are presented. Finally, the simulation waves of thewhole chip are given.XD1052is a highly intergrated solution for switching mode power supplyapplications requiring a dual control loop to perform constant voltage and constantcurrent regulation. XD1052integrates high-accuracy voltage reference, and trimmingtechnique is used to fine-tune the voltage reference to achieve precise control ofthe voltage/current output. XD1052has a low operational voltage and powerconsumption, its typical quiescent current is only145μA. The external detectionresistor is very small, it also reduces the power consumption. XD1052has smallarea, less external components required and simple components for frequencycompensation. It’s very fit for applications require small space. The protection circuits,such as voltage clamp and under-voltage lockout, making the operation of the chipmore secure and stable, are integrated in the chip.The design and simulation of XD1052are completed by Cadence and Hspicesoftware based on the0.35μm CMOS process. The simulation results show that theperformance in application is excellent and can meet the prospective specifications.
