Design And Implementation Of Flex And REST-based Shanghai Map Network

As the combination and development of Computer Technology and GIS Technology, WebGIS, namely the Web geographic information systems,became a main stream of GIS. One typical application of WebGIS,web map site, was developed fast these years. Most web map sites,following Google Maps, use AJAX technology do offers good user experience, but it’s not the only choice.RIA technology (Rich Internet Application), which rose recently,gives WebGIS new energy to develop.Shanghai-map site is a public-sevice map site belonging Shanghai Surveryjing ang Mapping Institute(SHSMI) which has authoriatative geospatial data of Shanghai city. Web map site is an important way to offer service using these data. The goal of Shanghai-map site is to be a platform serving not only enterprises and public institutions but also citizens. Shanghai-map site is also a provincial level branch of national map site’Tianditu’. So the construction of Shanghai-map site is very important and difficult.The team of Shanghai-map site adopted Flex technology and REST(Representational State Transfer) architecture,based on ArcGIS software,to make sure the site has good chearacteristics. Shanghai-map site is one of the few map sites using RIA technology in China.Flex technology makes the site having good UI views, easy to use, visiting fast and never been bothered by different client browsers.REST style service makes the whole site compact and scalable, been liked by advanced users, Right now Shanghai-map site has had10thousand users, winning favorable comments by leaders,and preparing serve whole nation via the map site’Tianditu’.This article performs the processes of the construction of Shanghai-map site, including the analysis of demands, the combination of resources, the design and the implementation of this site.Aslo, the article studies the Flex technology and REST architecture,to analyze how these two technologies make a web map site with good characteristics.At last,the article expects Shanghai-map site will have broad prospects with Flex and REST.
