| Zhang Shizhao is a significant figure in the history of modern and contemporaryChina, with multiple identities as a scholar, a politician, an attorney and a reporter.The ups and downs of his entire life used to be the focus of Chinese academic world,as well as his other controversial experience. He has claimed that reporting is hislifetime job, for working over twenty years in news reporting field, and for beeninvolved in more than thirty newspaper’s editing. Zhang Shizhao’s reportingmovement has deep influence on that time. His view of news has distinctcharacteristics. Though with conservative remains, many of his insights about newscan be used as our reference in today’s news world.This paper is based on scholarly research, and aims at summarizing and diggingfurther Zhang Shizhao’s view of news. It can be divided into four parts. The first partis introduction, including reasons to research, literature review and summary ofcertain inadequacy in previous researches of Zhang Shizhao. Meanwhile, the maincontent, methodology, innovative thoughts and research meaning are introduced inthis part. The second part is in chronological order, focusing on his reportingexperience, which lay foundation for analyzing his news view. In the third part, thespecific content of his news view will be studied and will be divided into threechapters. At the beginning, Zhang Shizhao’s view on newspapers function will beanalyzed and his unique view on this topic and its influence will be illustrated indetails. Then, this paper explores Zhang Shizhao’s liberalistic news view, focusing onindependent speech and free publication, and opposing making news rules. Lastly, hisunique journalese，the news style, and his view of news talent are discussed. In theending part, the reason and how his view of news is formed will be fully explored. |
