With the development of MOEMS (Micro Optical Electro-Mechanical-System)technology, miniaturization, array, integration have become an important direction of opticsdevelopment and frontier of today’s high-tech development. Due to biological compound eyeshave large field of view, high sensitivity, small size and other advantages, so bioniccompound eyes as an optical device also has aroused the widespread interest of manyscientists and research situations. At present, research on bionic compound eyes at home andabroad have made certain achievements, but in the arrangement, structural materials andproduction process have certain limitations.In this paper, starting from the principle of traditional melting photoresist, we carried outa series of bionic research from the pattern, shape, structure material, production process andother aspects of microlens arrays and bionic compound eyes. The main work andachievements of the study are as follows:(1) The working mechanism of biological compound eyes and the current research statusof bionic compound eyes are analyzed to obtain that the important significance of developingbionic compound eyes that have a simple fabrication, well optical material;(2) The process parameters and performances of PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane), SU-8photoresist, NOA73(Norland Optical Adhesive73) and other different material properties arestudied. And we research the working principle, advantages and disadvantages of the processof fabricating microlens arrays using the traditional photoresist melting method;(3) The plane microlens arrays are fabricated based on new materials NOA73, who havedifferent arrangements and shapes. And made curved microlens arrays with new producingtechnology on the basis of plane microlens arrays. Then through a series of opticalperformance tests, found that the produce curved microlens arrays have good surface, shapeand light intensity distribution. This further proved that the microlens arrays of NOA73 material own excellent optical performance;(4) A new integrated bionic compound eyes is designed based on the fabrication andtesting of microlens arrays. Then it is simulated using Zemax software and compared with thetraditional bionic compound eyes, results show that the new compound eyes structure has theadvantages of simple fabrication, little optical loss, excellent optical performance and so on;(5) Designed and fabricated the bionic compound eyes structure, then completed itsfabrication by MEMS production process. The test results prove that this bionic compoundeyes structure which is completed by melting photoresist and impression method has a seriesof advantages, uniform light intensity distribution, good imaging quality, well morphology,easy fabrication and little cost. so it can be done further research. That will lay a wellfoundation for the practical application of bionic compound eyes.
