It was expounded that speed governing magnet coupler as well as permanent magnetmaterials went through a rapid development. The system description of physicalconstruction and operating principle of speed governing magnet coupler was presented.Different methods were compared in permanent magnet field comprised the graphicanalytic method, numerical method and the finite element analysis method.In order to reduce manufacturing cost of speed governing magnet coupler, a discoidspeed governing magnet coupler with eight poles was designed for solving the problem ofstructure optimization, a method of simulation was adopted to predict the turning andstructural performances. According to the typical structure of speed governing magnetcoupler which included permanent magnet materials and copper conductor, the structuremodel was completed. The finite element analysis method was applied to analyze themagnetic field distribution in air gap, the magnetic field model was completed. The finiteelement analysis method was applied to analyze the stress condition of magnetic rotor, thestrain field was completed. Finally, the analysis results of torque and axial force wasdescribed as the eddy current was emerging.According to the calculation and analysis of this article, the influence of air gapthickness, rotor radius and rotor thickness on the maximum magnetic torque andmechanical strength was studied. The research results show that reducing the air gapthickness increases the maximum magnetic torque. With reducing the difference of Radius,the maximum magnetic torque has little change and weight of the device reduces, but thebiggest strain of rotor increases. With increasing the rotor thickness, the maximummagnetic torque increases, the biggest strain of rotor reduces, but weight of the deviceincreases. The conclusion is of great importance in the design of speed governing magnetcoupler, economy of permanent magnet materials.
