A setup for measuring the refractive index in UV band is introduced in this paper. The principle of the measurement and signal detecting technology for refractive index in UV band measurement system is introduce detailed in the paper.The content of the researchment includs:the calibration of the equipment; measurment method of refractive index; the standard optical sample for experiment; the extra violet luminary system; high precision goniometry, detection of weak extra violet optical signal; measurement software and the calibration of the system.The creative works and the key technology accomplished in the paper are as follows:1) A standard UV refractive index metrological instrument is investigated and researched in the paper. Technique statuses of metrology standard are as follows:refractive index measurement uncertainty is2×10-5; wavelength scope is from220nm to450nm.2) High precision goniometry is and researched in the paper. Goniometry is composed of inner axial and outer axial which is droved by stepper motor, so the standard optical sample and aiming system can be rotated, the refractive index of sample can be measured automatically.3) Standard angular sample is researched to calibrate the measuring instruments to clear up the errors of the optical path’s collimation, signal/noise ratio of photoelectric probe system, angular measurement system. The precision of angular measurement has been raised.The standard metrological instrument of refractive index of optical material at extra violet band researched in the paper ingrates the optics design, precision goniometry, sense extra violet signal, automatic control, signal processing etc, which has the characteristic of high accuracy, wide range of wavelength, completely automatic testing, ease and fast uses, satisfied the request of the task document.
