With the development of information technology, terrain visualization techniques havebeen applied in various fields, and the research especially in the area of seabed terrainvisualization becomes the hot issue today. Due to the complex and changing of the seabedtopography, seabed is still a mysterious place for people at this stage. Therefore, the study ofthe seafloor topography is focused in recent years.This paper is the research of undersea terrain visualization based on MFC in Visual C++programming language platform. The following aspects are discussed.The fractal interpolation algorithm is used to model the terrain combined with LODalgorithm. The GeoMipMap algorithm is chosen in a variety of LOD algorithms, and theGeoMipMap algorithm is compared with other algorithms to show its specifications. Throughthe combination of fractal interpolation algorithm and the LOD algorithm, terrain grids aredrawn and achieve the terrain mesh with different levels of detail according to differentlocation or viewpoint distance.Then the terrain mesh texture is added. Different texture images are chosen according tothe level of the terrain to make the terrain more realistic. Roaming effect of the terrain displayprogram is also implemented.Finally, based on MFC of VC++system platform, the3D terrain is displayed with twostyles which are topography grid mode display and texture pattern display. It is shown thatthe fractal interpolation algorithm makes the terrain more realistic, closer to the real terrain.
