Measuring end-to-end network reachability make great significance for the entire network’s fault detection, security management, and design. And now has already exist a number of measurement tools and methods, but, Because of the high complexity and lack of advanced network reachablity test tools in computer networks, the management of network reachability is becoming a mess. Therefore, seeking a convenient and practical automation testing tool of network reachability is an important problems to be solved in computer network. In this paper, we did research on network reachability measurement methods and tools. Main works as follows:Firstly, research on multi-firewall strategy difference detection problems of the network. Each firewall strategy configured in the networks is different from one another, which leads to the overall decision-making errors based on the combined firewall strategies. In order to solve the multi-firewall strategy difference detection problems, we proposed a multi-firewall strategy matching model, and designed a multi-firewall strategy difference detection algorithm based on the model. This algorithm transforms a firewall strategy into a strategy matching tree, and detects the difference by matching those firewall strategy matching trees. At the end of the paper, we did an experiment based on the algorithm. Experimental results show that the algorithm reduces the average time in detecting the differences among multiple firewall strategies.Secondly, research on The measurement of end-to-end reachability problem in the network, address the end-to-end reachability problem, the paper established a comprehensive set of network reachability models, proposed a network reachability test algorithm; according to different protocols of the network, build different network reachability matrix; finally combined with the proposed algorithm and the network reachability matrix, proposed a network reachability test, the experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively measuring network end-to-end reachability.Thirdly, combining with the above research work, VC++language and MFC DLL Application program, we implemented a network reachability test tool, and verified the performance of the proposed algorithm. The Network Reachability Test Tool can properly perform a real time monitoring on the network reachability and reduce the time consumed by the traditional Repeated-Testing-and-Error-Correctional network reachability management policies. The experiment shows that the offline computation of Network Reachability Test Tool only cost a few amount of time, and Network Reachability Test Tool provides an effective evaluation method for the research in network reachability algorithms.
