As a global wireless broadband access technology, WiMAX is used to be the last mileInternet access, due to its excellent performance and good prospects for the development.Therefore it has become a hotspot research topic in the communication field.This thesis aims to design a new simulation system to implement instant message onWiMAX wireless communication networks. Based on WiMAX standard protocols, data routingin IP layer and signaling interaction in MAC layer of WiMAX system are developed by C++onQt framework. Furthermore, the design and implementation of an instant messenger system ofWiMAX network is presented.First of all, after analyzing the protocol stack defined in the IEEE802.16protocols and theWiMAX network specifications, the encapsulation format of data packets defined in the protocolstack and signaling interaction for guaranteeing reliable data transmission are elaborated.Secondly, according to the requirements analysis of the WiMAX network platform, Qt is selectedas application development framework, and XML is selected as protocol encapsulation language.Then a new protocol stack for simulating and implementing WiMAX network is realised bydesigning a series of signaling messages to initiate, modify and terminate the communicationprocess, and by specifying the interaction processes of various signaling and data transfermechanisms. Afterwards, on the basis of the WiMAX system platform, an instant messagersystem of WiMAX wireless communication network is designed and developed to provide userswith a high-quality real-time communication service. At last, the user manual and the programdemo are presented, which verifies the efficiency, effectiveness and real-time feature of theWiMAX instant messaging system.The scheme of local routing entitled "WiMAX networks instant message system", as anoutput of the WiMAX research group, has been submitted for a patent which is numbered201210001450.3.
