Optical switch is an very important passive component which can switch or make on/off lightroute.So it has played an important role in the technologies of the fiber communication networksand aroused more and more extensive attention of experts and scholars.The paper introduced the present status and progress of research on optical switch, made adetailed analysis on the traditional and new optical switching technology are sμmmarized, theadvantages and disadvantages of various optical switch.The optical transmission theory andpiezoelectric ceramic knowledge were introduced simply analysis.On the plane-fiber connection of typical planar, spherical and planar docking, docking sphere-spherical docking and inclined-plane docking with the theoretical analysis and experimentalverification of the correlation.In the traditional dynamic fiber mechanical optical switch based on a new fiber end dockingway--end face tilted8degrees angle butt, and118dB can be achieved through theoretical analysisof its return loss, although there will be some bias, but through the experimental verification, canreach58dB, has considerable.In the return loss reaches the ideal value, the insertion loss of opticalfiber are experimentally verified, the fiber end cutting docking way8degree angle of insertion lossin the join matching solution for the case of0.34dB, accord with the standard of mechanical opticalswitch.Based on theoretical analysis and experimental verification, the fiber end cutting positioning of8degree angle to the docking mode for the feasibility analysis, further analysis of the two typicaldriving mode of mechanical optical switch--electromagnetic relay drive and driven piezoelectricceramics.The advantages and disadvantages of two driver and corresponding improvementmeasures.Finally, the optical switch measurement conversion time analysis method.
