With the development of society and improvement of people’s living standards,2D images ofthe remote sensing satellites have been gradually unable to meet the requirements. So the2Dimages need to be gradually transformed into3D ones.Based on the research of a large number of digital image processing, computer graphics, GIS(geographic information systems) etc, this thesis proposes a method to reconstruct3D image with adigital elevation model (DEM) and satellite remote sensing image. The main work is shown asfollows:(1) This thesis discusses the related theory of DEM, regular grid model, triangulated irregularnetwork model, Voronoi diagram, Delaunay triangle network, and gives three classic methods toconstruct TIN. An improved point-wise inserting algorithm is proposed.(2) Demonstrating the space coordinate transformation. This thesis gives painter algorithm,Z-buffer algorithm and ray tracing method. For the inadequacies of the Z-buffer algorithm, thisthesis gives an improved Z-buffer algorithm, and verifies the performance of the new algorithm.(3) Introducing OpenGL graphical interface and drawing method. Owing to these theories, this thesis uses the platform of WindowsXP system, Visual stdio2008and OpenGL programmingtechnology developed a3D landform visualization system. The system can transform2D imagesinto3D graphics with input DEM data. At the same time, it also adds the sky effect, and users canfreely walk through in the3D virtual scene. The reseach of this thesis has significant meaning in both theory and practise. In theory, thisthesis studies three-dimensional modeling algorithm, and blanking algorithm. In practise, a simpleand effective system that can transform2D images into3D ones is built in this thesis.
