Medical image three-dimensional information processing is the main direction in theresearch area of medical image, which can provide users with extremely realistic3Dmedical images, and plays an important role in medical research. This paper aims toobserve the structure morphology of the external tooth and internal root canal, andresearch the key techniques for tooth micro-CT image3D information processing. Firstof all, the three-dimensional image segmentation algorithms are studied to present athree-dimensional segmentation algorithm based on the improved CS-LBF model.Then, the tooth images after segmentation are reconstructed and shown using themethod presented in this paper, which is a hybrid tooth rendering algorithm based onthe edge cutting. Finally, the cutting techniques are researched on the basis of theconstruction of3D model to realize the tooth3D model continuous cutting using theinteractive cutting technology.In the part of image segmentation, this paper tries to focus on thethree-dimensional image segmentation approach based on partial differential anddiscusses several common used mathematical models for segmentation including CVmodel, PS model and LBF model. And this paper proposed a segmentation approachbased on the improved CS-LBF model. This method adds the compared constraintterm and shape constraint term to the traditional LBF model, which can restrain theinfluence made by non-uniform grey distribution and initialization. The experimentalresults show that this method can satisfy the requirements of continuity, integrity andsuitability for the segmentation. In the part of3D reconstruction, the volume rendering,surface rendering and hybrid rendering methods are compared to present a hybrid toothrendering algorithm based on the edge cutting. This method cuts the absolute emptyvolume voxels according to the edge cutting theories. And then the ray casting methodis used to acquire the basic3D model, and the B-spline surface is used to approximatethe tooth surface. The reconstructed tooth model gained by this method has the smoothsurface and clear appearance, and the cavity and root canal system in the tooth can beclearly shown, which plays a key role in the areas of oral medical observation,diagnosis and therapy. The three-dimensional model interactive cutting technology isalso a key research field in this paper. An effective interactive cutting method is applied to realize the3D model continuous cutting, which is helpful for the doctors toobserve the tooth image from multi-angle and multi-level.
