The circular polarization characteristics of millimeter wave antenna array and its unit is studied in this paper by proposing two different antenna design schemes. In the first part, the polarization design scheme of planar slot antenna structure is proposed and validated by physical verification; then, the realization method of dielectric resonator antenna array circular polarization are discussed. The main research work are listed as follow:1.Two millimeter wave planar slot antennas of different shapes are designed: straight groove planar antenna and corner groove planar antenna. These two groups of planar slot antenna includes four slot antenna units arrayed in a particular way, rectangular for radiation tank of straight-sided slot antenna, and L-shaped for radiation tank corner slot antenna; In order to eliminate the surface wave existing in planar antenna, improving the efficiency of the antenna, four sets of grounding pole are placed vertically in the medium around four slot antennas, with short-circuit connection to slot antenna in metal strips and metal grounding plate to intercept surface wave transmission. Compared to the traditional planar antenna, the antenna designed in this issue can effectively suppress the surface wave, and has a small size, and when the elements distance of the antenna array is below half of wavelength. Based on discussion and parameter optimization of these two kinds of realization of planar antenna unit circular polarization, and the comparison between the simulation results, the straight groove planar antenna is chosen for processing and testing. And the straight slot planar antenna are arrayed into4×4rectangular array, for simulation optimization, processing and testing. Ultimately a circular polarization is realized, and the antenna can be used for phased array application as well.2. In the design of dielectric resonator antenna, two different methods of realizing circular polarization array are proposed:four line polarization antenna units forms a2x2subarray with cross-feeding, realizing circular polarization of subarray, which is used as elements for arraying; a circular polarization antenna unit is designed, which is used as elements for arraying. By simulation analysis with mixing these two solutions into a8×8rectangular matrix, their operation characteristics, advantages and disadvantages are discussed respectively.
