This paper first describes the system structure and working principle of each module of ZSP400-DSP IP core of VeriSilicon Holdings Co., Ltd. On this basis, presents the application in multimedia of ZSP400-MP3decoding, and in-depth analysis of the overall process and specific algorithms of MP3decoding. To achieve efficient and real-time MP3audio decoding, three levels of optimization for MP3decoding process:Algorithm level, Fixed-point level of data and Code level are carried out using the ZSP’s development tools-ZView. In the algorithm level, used B.G Lee’s fast algorithm、Szu-Wei Lee’s fast algorithm and look-up table combined with the fit fast algorithm; In the fixed-point level, fixed point of the floating point procedure of MP3decoding; in the code level, using the inline function、look-up table method、 pointer instead of array and some other general-purpose DSP software optimization methods. Finally, a wide range of tests to the optimization results are conducted, the test results show that the execution efficiency of the optimized MP3decoding process increases very significantly with ZSP400, not only meets the goal of real-time decoding, but also can complete high-precision decoding tasks at a lower MIPS, which proves the importance of software optimization in the embedded development, and to some extent, achieves the right ZSP400IP core performance evaluation and has laid a good foundation for future SoC design based-on ZSP400.
