This thesis aims to exam contextual communication style of China’s English newswebsites. According to high and low context theories, China is high-contextual culture,English-speaking countries are low-contextual culture. Based on this theory, this paperanalyzes cultural differences between high and low context and sums them up as sixdifferences. Each difference has a research question and related indexes used to testifyif China’s English news websites use low-contextual online communication style.Research samples cover four websites with both government and commercialbackground. Based on qualitative analysis over five days, it is proved that China’sEnglish news websites are good at low-contextual news making procedure but bad atcatering low-contextual audiences in terms of individual value and thinking mode. |
