With the rapid development of data communication networks, in particular the explosive growth of Internet traffic, the demand for data transmission bandwidth is growing. Since WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology is able to provide huge transmission bandwidth, it has become the core technology of next-generation backbone network. Although WDM technology allows network transmission capacity to be greatly improved, once a failure occurs in the network, it will lead to transmission failure and the huge data loss. In addition, since the size of the network is expanding because of some factors such as geographical constraints and the coexistence of multiple network operators, the actual backbone optical network is formed by the interconnection of multiple domains each of which is an independent area of routing and fault recovery. Based on this background, a multi-domain protection routing mechanism in WDM optical network is designed in this thesis to improve network survivability. In order to solve the optical network routing better, a routing mechanism based on the game is designed in this thesis, in which users’QoS (Quality of Service) requirements in WDM optical network, maximum charges the users are willing to pay, the pursuit of profit from the network provider and the maintenance of network load balancing are all considered in the routing mechanism. In order to ensure that users satisfy the quality of survivability with paying acceptable expense, and that network providers receive a satisfactory profit in providing survivable routing and excellent network load conditions, a protection mechanism based on the game is designed in this thesis. Game theory, Nash equilibrium and Pareto Optimality of micro-economics are introduced to consider the benefits of both users and the network providers to guarantee the reasonability of survivable routing and further to make users and network providers satisfied with their benefits and achieve all-win. Based on the two mechanisms above, unicast protection algorithm and multicast protection algorithm for multi-domain WDM optical network are designed to establish a working path and a working tree for each unicast and multicast requests respectively, and provide segment protection for them. To validate the viability and effectiveness of the proposed multi-domain protection routing mechanism, simulation and performance analysis are implemented. The results show-that compared with other existing protection routing mechanisms, the designed mechanism can not only provide more effective survivable routing for traffic, but also cater both users’ and network providers’benefits and maximize utilities of both sides.
