Embedded vehicle navigation system (EVNS) is an important part of intelligenttransport system which integrates the embedded technology, global positioningtechnology, geographic information system technology and computer technology. Byemploying GPS and GIS technology, developers can select different hardware,operating system and electronic maps to implement vehicle orientation navigation.Firstly, this paper analyzes the status of EVNS’s research home and abroad, anddescribes GPS positioning principle and GIS development method. This hardwareplatform is designed using developing board TQ2440which is produced by EmbedskyCompany and GPS GR-87module which is manufactured by HOLUX. The platformemploys Windows CE5.0as operation system, applies the embedded programtechnology and MapX Mobile of MapInfo Company to develop the software of EVNSunder Embedded Visual C++4.0environment. And this paper presents the overalldesign scheme of EVNS.Secondly, by studying thoroughly the development of BootLoader and OAL, thefunction of initializing platform is achieved and the started manner suiting to the systemis proposed. Based on analyzing driver architecture of Windows CE, the drivers of serialand touch screen are realized. The Windows CE system is successfully transplanted toTQ2440.Lastly, the orientation of the vehicle navigation is realized by combining withelectronic map and GPS data which is received and analyzed using serialcommunication technology under EVC4.0environment. And the basic map operations,such as digital map display, zoom in, zoom out, roaming, layer manager and eagle eyefunction, are accomplished by MapX Mobile. By depth studying the classical Dijkstraalgorithm, the shortest path analysis is implemented with beeline optimization Dijkstraalgorithm based on binary heap. In this paper, the application research and design ofEVNS has high practical value.
