Frequency selective surface (FSS) is a two-dimensional periodic structure. Itexhibits total reflection and transmission in the neighborhood of the elementresonances. As it performs as a filter, FSS is widely used in the fields of microwaveand optics. In recent years, with the applications of frequency multiplexing technique in civilcommunications and military field and advancement of the multifunctional integrationof communication device, the miniaturization of the system components is more andmore significant. The miniaturization of FSS of low frequency becomes a hot topic. Inthis paper, the improved square loop aperture FSS and FSS with loaded lumpedelement are proposed to mitigate the contradiction between low-frequency operationand miniaturization. Then based on these two kinds of FSSs above, the FSSs whichhave dual-band performance are proposed. At last, the complementary of the proposedsquare loop aperture is used as antenna reflector, in the antenna operating band, thisstructure performs the band-stop characteristic and works as a metal plate. Whileoutside the operating band, the design shows the band-pass characteristic, so most ofthe incident energy passed through the antenna. Therefore, by using the FSS structure, the antenna radiation is ensured and the RCS is reduced.
