The using of stealth weapons in modern warfare poses a great threat to radarsystems. An important breakthrough point to improve the anti-stealth ability of modernradar is to make use of targets’ scattering characteristics and polarization characteristicsin VHF. In this paper, a pre-research project will be carried out on the relevant research.Firstly, this paper introduces analysis approach on the echo data of several typicalstealth targets scaled models in the VHF low-band RCS, focuses on the time-domainwindow selection method of data processing, and improves the time-domain windowselection method and the corresponding method for determining the scattering center. And then scattering characteristics and polarization characteristics of these types ofstealth targets in meter band in the RCS frequency are analyzed and discussed. Theresults show that the RCS fluctuation of stealth targets in the meter band is larger than20dBsm and target’s RCS scattering characteristic has great relationship with theobservation angle. Under various transmit-receive polarization combinations, the varietycharacteristic of target’s RCS shows a variety of differences with different frequenciesand orientations, and utilization of various polarization combinations can effectivelyimprove the radar’s detection performance. At last, the paper makes the analysis andprocessing on the actual data of the test radar. The results show that in different radarfrequencies, the polarization characteristics of the target echoes are quite different andin the individual frequencies, the cross-polarized received signal is stronger than thehomo-polarized received signal. Therefore, by use of radar targets, it is necessary tochoose the right frequency as for the target scattering frequency and polarizationcharacteristics and take full advantage of cross-polarized receive channels of echosignal to further enhance the radar’s detection performance.
