As the amplitude, phase, frequency, waveform, Polarization is one of the importantcharacteristics of radiation sources’ signal. The polarization information can be used asan important basis for radiation sources’ signals separation, identifying, and also can beused as anti-reconnaissance, anti-jamming, target identification and anti-stealthtechnology. With the development and utilization of signal polarization parameters inmodern radar technology, the reconnaissance of Polarization characteristics of the signalof radiation sources has became one of important electronic warfare technology topics. This paper first described the three traditional polarization reconnaissance methodsof radiation sources: Polarization direction map approach, amplitude-phase approachand multi-antennas approach, and polarization identify design based on the traditionalpolarization reconnaissance methods, and reviewed the advantages and disadvantages ofthe three options by Matlab simulation. Then polarization-direction reconnaissancetechnology of radiation sources’ signal is discussed. In this paper, reconnaissance anypolarized signal via non-uniform L array constituting of the cross-dipoles is studied, andjoint estimation of the multidimensional parameters of the frequency, DOA andpolarization is done by using JTSS algorithms, simulation results showed that thispolarization detection method has better performance than the traditional method. Finally, this paper briefly described applications of the polarization information inthe field of electronic countermeasures. This article overviewed various polarizationtechniques and its application prospects and preliminary ideas in the field of electroniccountermeasures, such as anti-active-jamming, anti-target-stealth, anti-low-altitudepenetration, and improving the target recognition capacity.
