In the field of the monitoring and control communication engineering applications, embedded systems play an increasingly important role. The designers are more andmore looking to build a powerful board level system quickly in a small space, the wayof using the FPGA and embedded systems to solve practical problems is a good method. But connecting the FPGA with the third party processor in bus is current mainstreamway.this design is complex, and beause of many vendors involved, the hardware areeasily to have compatible problems. In addition, the high cost of this designment makeit can not fully play the advantages of the FPGA, resulting in waste of resources.Taking processors PowerPC440in the FPGA chip as hardware core for theembedded operating system and combining the FPGA with the embedded system designtechnology, the thesis emphasizes on the study of how to build Linux system in FPGAchip and how to use Xilinx EDK in the design process. Beside, this thesis introduces thekey technology and the problem in development process. At last, based onthe embedded system on FPGA chip, the author set up the design of spectrumanalysis application as examples to verify the reliability and applicability of thesystem. In short,Linux system in FPGA chip is a dependent platform,it also can be donefurther research.the author believe that this platform will become more mature with thatmore and more the domestic designer join in this area, and it can be applied to wideareas.
