The17years from the founding of New China to the Cultural Revolution broke out,is the important stage of the Chinese archival undertaking from establishment todevelopment, and laid a solid foundation for the national archives undertaking system.Archival work was founded in1951, is the first professional periodical on archives inchina, and is also the only national periodical on archives continuously and publiclypublished before the Cultural Revolution. Archives Work greatly promotes thedevelopment of China’s archives undertaking since it witnesses and records theconstruction process of this undertaking before the Cultural Revolution. For a long time,there are few articles directly studying Archives Work in the archives field, which isinconsistent with its status in china’s archives history. In-depth understanding the socialbackground before the Cultural Revolution in China, articles on Archives Work(1951-1965) are sorted out and analyzed through documentary research method,inductive method and statistical method, in order to explore the relationship between thedevelopments of Chinese archival undertaking to Archives Work before the CulturalRevolution.The firstly, the basic information of Archives Work is summarized. Archives Work isthe official journal of The State Archives Administration of China.Its publication idea iscontention of a hundred schools of thoughts and integrating theory with practice, and itscolumns often set based on the actual needs of the archival work, and reflects thecharacteristics of flexible journal.The construction of archives legal system ensures thesound development of archives undertaking, and archivists are the subject of thisundertaking and also the theoretical research on archival science is the great power tobring this undertaking forward. Then, the contributions to archives undertaking made byArchives Work before the Cultural Revolution are discussed by paper two, three, four-partfrom three aspects: the construction of archives legal system, training and education ofarchivists and theoretical research on archival science. It is held in this paper thatArchives Work promotes the formulation, publicity and implementation of laws andregulations about archives, develops the professional dedication and professional skills of the archivists, and leads the right direction of theoretical research on archival science andalso promote the prosperity of archival science theory research before the CulturalRevolution.Based on the above study,its history status and influences are evaluated. ArchivesWork is the combination of theory and practice. It is the promoters of construction ofarchives legal system, the mentor of the archivist, the guide of theory researching.Though there is profound brand of the times in Archives Work before the CulturalRevolution, it is left for future generations a wealth of archival science historical, and itspublication experience is still valuable for today’s archives periodicals.
