Phase change memory,as one of the most promising candidate for the next generationmemory, are receiving more and more attention. Phase change memory takes thepredominance over conventional memory due to its faster reading rate, non-volatileproperty and easy arts and crafts. This dissertation is to design the software program basedon finite element method in simulation of the electric heating for phase change memory.Simulation model of the electric heating for phase change memory is built and thehigh-efficiency finite element method is applied to calculate the model. The theory of thefinite element method and numerical principle is briefly introduced firstly. Then, twocommon numerical methods of the finite element method, the variational method and theweighted residual approach, are give out. Physical model about the Constant current field,Steady-state heat conduction and Transient heat conduction of the phase change memory isbuilt by the weighted residual approach. Integration of the finite element function is takenin order to get formula that is easy to program.In view of lot of matrix operation involved among the finite element calculation,fortran language is selected as the programming language. During the design process, theinput analog data is handled to get the system matrices. The problem should be analyzedhere is include the electric potential, the heat conduction and the transient heat conduction.The system matrices is handled by the program and the Corresponding boundary conditionis corrected and huge Linear equations is generated at last. Different Linear equations inconnection with different problem will be solved by different algorithm according to theircharacteristics, taking the simulation efficiency into account. The main program will deliverthe output data in the form of the text documents to the follow-up program. Finally, theprogram analysis the data and give the visual results.
