The rapid development of LED industry needs a higher production efficiency of LEDpackaging equipment. Mixed-connection LED mounter can improve efficiency and quality ofLED packaging. It has simple structure, and it is easily made, low cost. So it can be widelyused in China’s LED packaging companies, greatly enhance our technological level andmarket competitiveness of LED packaging manufacture, and lay the foundation for furtherresearch and application of high-speed high-precision hybrid robotics. Therefore, the self-developed mixed-connection LED mounter is of great significance.Considered the demand for LED placement, the LED mounter control system is studiedand developed. In the part of studying the motion unit, the4-DOF mixed-connection LEDmounter was based on the2-DOF parallel mechanism of parallel rails, cascading2-DOF tandem operating mechanism of translation and rotation. The mounter’s coordinatesystem was analyzed; the kinematic characteristics of this mounter were analyzed and thekinematics positive and inverse solutions of the XY-axis parallel mechanism, includingpostion、velocity、acceleration, were calculated; the trajectory was planned according to therequirements; the placement process was described.In the part of developing the control unit, different schemes of control system, includingPLC、Microcontroller、motion control card, were compared, and the PMAC clipper waschosen as our motion controller. The design principles of the PID controller were discussed,and the PMAC clipper, transfer boards, and their pin definitions were introduced. The XY-axis servo motors and the rotary-axis stepper motor were chosen. The proximity sensors wereindicated, and the electrical wiring diagram of control unit was also drawn. Besides, theywere connected into a whole according to their wiring requirements, and installed in anelectrical control cabinet.Finally, the function tests and experiments of the system were carried out. After thenetwork was configured, the parameters were set well, a series of debugging were done andexperimental curves were gotten. The results show that the control system can complete thetask of the LED placement.
