As the extension of PET technology, the emergence of small animal PET provides anew approach for animal experiments "in vivo". The technology is being developed fordrug, oncology, important human diseases (such as the nervous system and cardiovasculardiseases), and genomics research. However, due to the fact that the hearts of small animalsare relatively small, and in the beating, makes the clarity of the PET images decline, andaffects the accuracy of quantitative analysis. In this case, this paper describes a set ofECG-gated PET system for small animal mode in order to eliminate the interferenceintroduced by cardiac contraction. This paper first introduces the principles and methods of the gating technology, andthen puts out the architecture design of the gated system according to the functionalrequirements, and followed by the description of the implementation of the system indetail. The system takes CPLD570as the control module, which provides a basis forfuture system function. The system takes highly integrated and powerful PTR6100as awireless communication module, which lowers power consumption and saves cost. Level-triggered way to achieve synchronization. The hardware successfully implements thesynchronous acquisition of mice ECG signal, the software accurately achieves ECGFeature Point Detection Algorithm and a reasonable segmentation algorithm, whicheffectively segment the coincidence data. After completed the development of the system, the real mouse cardiac imagingexperiments were carried out. The results confirm the validity of the ECG gating system, and indicate the importance of a reasonable segmentation at the same time. Finally, weevaluate the whole system from different aspects. The system features with facility, lowpower consumption as well as plug and play.
