With the development of auto industry, exhaust emission pollution is serious. New emissions standards are issued, and the high performance planar oxygen sensors become development trend. However, at present, the technology of domestic oxygen sensor industry is comparatively backward, and most of the products are casing type oxygen sensor. In order to change the present situation of dependence on imports, independent research on planar oxygen sensor must be done. The preparation of ZrO2electrolyte is the core of the planar oxygen sensor technology, and the key is the solution of over burned Pt electrode and low density ZrO2.In this paper, the tape casting and sintering performance of ZrO2was discussed. Detailed work is as following:Different solvents was used for tape casting. Through the measurement of paste viscosity, paste drying and observation of green surface, the effect of solvents was studied. Meanwhile, the paste drying process was discussed. The conclusion that pure ethanol could take the place of ethanol&MEK compound with good performance.ZiO2powders with different particle size was used for slurry preparation. Through the analysis on influence of various additives, effect of particle size on slurry composition was discussed, and the optimal proportion of slurry was summarized.ZiO2powder was ball milled and then measured by Particle Analyzers. Though measurement and analysis on density and shrinkage of sintered compact, the relationship between the particle size and milling time was found, while the sintering density decreases with the particle size increases.ZiO2powder of micron and nano particle size was mixed by ball milling and graded into double size component powders. Through the bulk density test, the relationship between bulk density and particle size was discussed. Through the analysis on sintering performance of graded and ungraded powder, the sintering density is high for graded powder.
