Due to its high energy density, large magnetostrictive strain, good reliability, rare-earthgiant magnetostrictive materials (GMM) have been used in many fields such as water-acousticsensors technology, electrical-acoustic sensors technology, marine exploration and development,the vibration reduction and antivibration, intelligence wing, robots. In this work,magnetostriction performance of terfenol-D was introduced in detail. Magnetic circuit oftransducer was designed, and magnetic field and temperature field were analyzed, which wereavailable for the study of giant magnetostrictive transducer.Firstly, the magnetostrictive phenomenon mechanism, development history, and the recentresearch results of magnetostrictive transducers were introduced in detail, through variousanalyses, the research contents was put forwarded.Secondly, the operating principle of transducer and its characteristics are analyzed andexplained. Through the analysis of the working characteristics and consideration of the keydesign issues, the magnetic circuit design was described comprehensively, the design methods ofmagnetostrictive transducer was discussed, including incentive coil design, bias magnetic coildesign, GMM rod design and leakage magnetic field design. The transducer heating mechanismwas elaborated.Then, magnetic field and temperature field of the giant magnetostrictive transducer isanalyzed by using finite element analysis software. Through the analysis of the magnetic fielddistribution, the distribution of magnetic induction density, magnetostrictive transducer along therod axial magnetic flux density distribution curve, the rod intermediate point magnetic field fortwo kinds of transducer structure, the giant magnetostrictive transducer structure was optimized.According the analysis of temperature field, the temperature change of the rods in the air coolingand water cooling conditions was determined.Finally, giant magnetostrictive transducer prototype was made, the magnetic field andtemperature field of giant magnetostrictive transducer was measured, through the analysis of theexperimental data, the change rule of magnetic field and temperature field was got. On the basis of experiment result, the transducer is further studied. The further work on the future wasproposed based on the result.
