With the development of modern science and technology, real-timeimage processing has brought widespread concern. However, in the nightor low visibility conditions, due to inadequate lighting human can noteasily observate the surrounding environment. Similarly, for the ordinarycamera monitoring system it is difficult to capture the details in a certainrange. Such a situation brings an adverse impact to the night road trafficon video surveillance. So we can improve quality of the original videothrough image processing algorithms.With the development of DSP technology, more efficient imageprocessing algorithms can be realized through high-speed DSP processingchip. Meanwhile real-time DSP system with the function of videoprocessing has a broad market prospect. In this paper, the high-speed DSPtechnology makes it possible to implement the real-time night videoenhancement algorithms. The system uses an ordinary camera to capture video, through encoding and decoding algorithm by DSP chip then didimage processing and optimization, after that output the video signal toscreens for display. Not only the quality of night vedio was enhanced, butalso the speed of the video processing was improved. This technology hasan important value in practice.This paper was focused on the night video enhancement algorithmsand its implementation in the DM642system. Firstly it introduces thebasic algorithms for image enhancement in night, including thespace-domain and frequency-domain algorithms, such as gray-scalestretch, a variety of histogram equalization algorithm, based onsingle-scale Retinex transformation algorithm and MEAM (MethodAccording to Aare M llo) algorithm, meanwhile gives out the effectanalysis of the algorithms on PC, the realization of analysis andcomparison of results, followed by details of the night video real-timeDSP system to enhance the various important components and systemsoftware design, including structural characteristics of DSP, video capturemodule and other important system modules, the software design process.Finally it gives details of implementation of the night image enhancementalgorithms in the DSP while putting forward the relevant procedures foroptimized DSP solutions and attention to points. This DSP system in thisarticle describes brings with a better processing effect and betterreal-time.
